Prompt

Writing Prompt:
Some schools think that it is harmful to students for there to be internet access. Teachers believe that some sites might be distracting to students and give them too much freedom to roam. Other teachers use the websites for some learning experiences: tutorials, examples of newspapers, posters, the past information, and more. I vehemently disagree with the teachers. Students will always have a distraction, that’s just what happens.
Schools can’t just get rid of the cell phones, websites, social media, and games. Students now days need those just to stay in school. They will always find some way to break a rule or cause a distraction; it’s not just the different kinds of websites. Sometimes a website might not be a distraction. It might relax them or make them focus a little better.
When the websites get blocked teachers lose a teaching source. They can use some of the websites that get blocked as a learning material. Tutorials are on line, or old examples of newspapers or some of the past information of the economy. A student Kathryn had an Anatomy class and couldn’t get any pictures for a project because she couldn’t get to the source to do her citation page. Haleigh had Digital Media, and she couldn’t use any internet pictures because she couldn’t find the right ones to go with her project. These are all examples for keeping some websites.
There are those students that do like to go against the rules and get on websites they shouldn’t during school. They are usually the reason the other students get their resources taken away. Those students should be the ones getting websites blocked. If it is just certain people disobeying rules why punish other students?         Social media websites, sexual sites, chats, and shopping websites should all be blocked. Those are some sites that are not appropriate for school. Students should just wait until they get home for these sites. The rest of the sites should be able to be used until they use them inappropriately by many others. Students will always find some way to distract themselves from school. So it doesn’t matter how many blocked websites, rules, or safety ideas we have there will always be issues.
