Footprint: Global Science

1. Http://footprintnetwork.org/en/index.php/GFN/page/calculators/
2. No it's not a good cite for kids unless they have hit middle school because then they won't be able to understand. Younger kids would be able to use it with a parent. It was a easy cite for me to use besides i don't know the acres I live on.
3. 4.5
4. Yourself: short showers, turn of water when brushing teeth, turn off unneeded lights.
The School: use one set of lights, turn down heat, keep computers off
The Community: car pool, ride bike more, keep lights off at night (businesses)
5. The video said to buy locally because it doesn't create as much of a footprint. The closer we buy things like at market or farms and the more we grow in our gardens at home, the more plastic or waste we save as well as we don't have to waste gas for fruits and veggies.

20 time

The group can not focus and the video does not make any since. It's a real struggle. The superhero videos are a lot of fun depending on the group.

20 Time

Kat and I decided to start the Senior Addition for our 20 Time.
Today we went around and ask some of the seniors questions for their Senior Sign Off

Mars Movie Post

1. There was oxygen on mars which means there is carbon dioxide too.
I didn't think mars would have oxygen.
Dr. Plait says that there is a low carbon dioxide in the norther part of mars.

2. The fire that went on in the ship, it was difficult to put all of it out alone.
I didn't think that a fire could be started out in space with no oxygen.
Dr. Plait says that it could happen but when the girl goes to put the fire out she goes backward, it was accurate.

3.When the solar flare catches the ship on fire, it didn't seem that hard to put the fire out and solve the problem.
I thought it seemed too easy but was really interesting on what all happened.
Dr. Plait says that in real life it would of been a lot more complicated.

4. The escape pod hit the ground and got destroyed.
I thought the escape pod would be more secure and safe.
Dr. said the pod fell to quickly, the gravity in Mars is less, which would make the pod bounce higher and slower

5.The gravity immediately dropped when the girl turned the main power back on.
I thought that it was unrealistic for the gravity to come back quickly when it took awhile for it to go away.
Dr. said that the gravity wouldn't just go back on, it would take time for it to actually take affect. She wouldn't just fall to the ground like everything else.

Egg and Equinox
-I thought an egg could balance at a certain time through out the day not just on a certain day.
-It only happens on the first day of spring because the earth axis is perpendicular to the sun.

Dark Side of the Moon
-I thought the moon really had a dark side. That is why people say the dark side of the moon.
- The moon has no dark side, it looks like it to us only because we cant see that side. There is no dark side only a far side.

Why is the Sky Blue
- I thought the sky was blue because it is reflecting blue light. Kind of like how grass looks green, it doesn't absorb the green light.
- The suns blue light scatters which causes the sky to be blue.

Global Science Questions

I know very little about computers and technology. I am not very comfortable with using macs because it is different then my lab too and the school computers. I am able to design things using photoshop but when there I have to put together something or need to do something fancy I am no able to do so. I am not a techno person.
I would like to know more about the out space and the alignment of the stars and be able to spot the Big Dipper and the North Star. I like learning about the plants and sun, so being able to know information about that would be fun. I would like to make the earth a better and safer environment for animals and plants.

Prompt

Writing Prompt:
Some schools think that it is harmful to students for there to be internet access. Teachers believe that some sites might be distracting to students and give them too much freedom to roam. Other teachers use the websites for some learning experiences: tutorials, examples of newspapers, posters, the past information, and more. I vehemently disagree with the teachers. Students will always have a distraction, that’s just what happens.
Schools can’t just get rid of the cell phones, websites, social media, and games. Students now days need those just to stay in school. They will always find some way to break a rule or cause a distraction; it’s not just the different kinds of websites. Sometimes a website might not be a distraction. It might relax them or make them focus a little better.
When the websites get blocked teachers lose a teaching source. They can use some of the websites that get blocked as a learning material. Tutorials are on line, or old examples of newspapers or some of the past information of the economy. A student Kathryn had an Anatomy class and couldn’t get any pictures for a project because she couldn’t get to the source to do her citation page. Haleigh had Digital Media, and she couldn’t use any internet pictures because she couldn’t find the right ones to go with her project. These are all examples for keeping some websites.
There are those students that do like to go against the rules and get on websites they shouldn’t during school. They are usually the reason the other students get their resources taken away. Those students should be the ones getting websites blocked. If it is just certain people disobeying rules why punish other students?         Social media websites, sexual sites, chats, and shopping websites should all be blocked. Those are some sites that are not appropriate for school. Students should just wait until they get home for these sites. The rest of the sites should be able to be used until they use them inappropriately by many others. Students will always find some way to distract themselves from school. So it doesn’t matter how many blocked websites, rules, or safety ideas we have there will always be issues.
